A verdict has been reached in the sexual assault case in Selçuk district, which was heard at the Torbalı Heavy Penal Court and closely followed by the public. Although the court handed down a heavy sentence against teacher Y.Ş., it decided to uphold the house arrest order.

Heavy Sentence for Teacher: 37 Years and 6 Months in Prison

Teacher Y.Ş., who was tried at the Torbalı Heavy Penal Court, was sentenced to 37 years and 6 months in prison for the charges against him. However, despite this heavy prison sentence, the court’s decision to continue the house arrest of the defendant teacher caused great surprise and reaction in front of the courthouse.

Saadet Özkan, President of UCİM (Association for the Prevention of Child Neglect and Abuse), who has stood by the victim’s families since the beginning of the trial, made a press statement in front of the courthouse after the verdict hearing. Özkan strongly criticized the decision to place a person sentenced to 37 years and 6 months in prison under house arrest.

In her statement, Saadet Özkan said:

“How can a person sentenced to 37 years and 6 months in prison be placed under house arrest, and how can such a decision be made? This has deeply wounded the sense of justice. We will follow up on this decision! We will pursue the legal process to the end to ensure that justice is fully served.”

The families of the victimized children also reacted to the decision, stating that although they were pleased with the prison sentence, they were saddened by the decision to continue house arrest, which meant that the defendant would not be detained, and that they did not feel safe.
