Hamas said it is looking at a 60-day ceasefire offer in Gaza, which US President Donald Trump said Israel agreed to on July 2.

Trump asked Hamas to accept the “final offer” that will come from Qatar and Egypt.

According to Reuters, Hamas said they are studying the offer from Egypt and Qatar.

But they also said that Israel must leave Gaza.

In a statement, Hamas said their goal is to end the war, make Israel leave Gaza, and make a deal to bring emergency aid to the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his first public statement after Trump’s announcement.

He said that Hamas must be destroyed.

He (Netanyahu) said:

“We will free all our hostages and destroy Hamas. There will be no Hamas. There will be no ‘Hamastan’. We will not go back to this. It is over.”

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said that Israel is serious about a hostage deal and ceasefire:

“There are some positive signs. I don’t want to say more now.”

He also said that most of the Israeli people and the government support a ceasefire and hostage exchange in Gaza.

On the other side, according to TRT, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with the Hamas delegation on July 2.

The group was led by Mohammed Darwish, the Head of the Hamas Shura Council.

They talked about the latest ceasefire talks and the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Trump: Israel Accepted 60-Day Ceasefire in Gaza

On July 2, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Truth Social (his social media site) that Israel accepted a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.

He said the U.S. will work with all sides during this time to end the war.

Trump did not give full details, but wrote:

“The people of Qatar and Egypt worked very hard for peace. They will share this final offer.

I hope Hamas accepts this deal — because they won’t get a better one. Only worse.”

Trump is also expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu next week.

He said:

“I believe Netanyahu wants to end the fighting in Gaza.

I think we will have a deal next week.”

More Fighting in Gaza

Recently, Israel told people in northern Gaza to leave, and increased its attacks in the area.

At the end of June, a Hamas leader told the BBC that talks with Israel stopped, but Qatar and Egypt are still working on a new deal for a ceasefire and hostage release.

Israel says the war will only end when Hamas is destroyed.

Hamas wants a permanent ceasefire and for Israel to leave Gaza completely.

Airstrike and Aid Problems

On June 30, an Israeli airstrike hit a cafe by the beach in Gaza City.

At least 20 Palestinians died, according to health workers and witnesses.

More than 170 aid groups say Israeli forces often shoot at Palestinians who go to get help from GHF, an aid group supported by Israel.

Israel says this is not true.

What Happened to the Last Ceasefire in Gaza?

The last ceasefire ended in March, when Israel started new attacks in Gaza.

Israel said the attacks were to stop Hamas from planning more terror attacks, getting stronger, and getting more weapons.

The ceasefire, which started on January 19, had three parts, but it stopped after the first part.

What Was in the Gaza Ceasefire Deal?

The second part of the deal included:

• A permanent ceasefire

• Palestinian prisoners in Israel would be released

• In return, Israeli hostages in Gaza would be freed

• Israeli forces would leave Gaza completely

About 50 Israeli hostages are still in Gaza.

At least 20 of them are believed to be alive.

Why Did Israel Attack Gaza Again? What Happens to the Ceasefire?

On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, and about 1,200 people were killed.

After that, Israel began large attacks on Gaza.

Since then, at least 56,647 people have died in Gaza.

And the number of people killed is getting higher every day because the attacks are still happening.
